Stefan Obmann, born in 1988 in Carinthia, began his musical education at the age of five. He
studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with the members of the Wiener
Philharmoniker Dietmar Küblböck and Mark Gaal.
In 2006 he won the Anton Bruckner Competition of the Wiener Symphoniker in the category "Best
Newcomer On The Trombone". He is also a laureate of the competition Gradus ad Parnassum
2011.
Stefan Obmann had temporary contracts at the Wiener Volksoper, at the Tonkünstlerorchester
Niederösterreich, in the stage orchestra of the Wiener Staatsoper and at the Oper Frankfurt. He
has played and works with renowned orchestras such as the Tonkünstlerorchester
Niederösterreich, the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester,
the Staatskapelle Berlin, the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln, the Wiener Volksoper and Wiener
Staatsoper, the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Philharmoniker.
He is also trombonist of the trombone quartet Trombone Attraction and the Vienna Brass
Connection. Contemporary music has a particularly high importance in his artistic work. He is a
member of the Ensemble Wiener Collage and a welcome guest of the Ensemble PHACE, the
Ensemble Kontrapunkte, the ensemble xx. Jahrhundert and the Klangforum Wien.
Stefan Obmann lives as a freelance musician in Vienna.
